MuleSoft alternative — MuleSoft vs Skippr

MuleSoft is API and flow runtime. You write a Mule application (XML plus DataWeave), deploy it to CloudHub, CloudHub 2.0, Runtime Fabric, or a standalone Mule. Anypoint Exchange is the connector and API catalog. Composer is the lighter Salesforce-shaped canvas on the same brand. New list pricing starts at 2,000 USD a month, billed annually, with a pool of Mule Credits across integration, API management, automation, and agents. Pre-Purchase is pay-as-you-go credits. Pre-Commit is a 50,000 USD yearly baseline. Unlimited is a custom uncapped quote. Older contracts still meter Gold / Platinum / Titanium in production and pre-production vCores, API Manager instances, governed APIs, Anypoint MQ requests, and Object Store requests. CloudHub 2.0 usage packages size replicas (mule.nano is 0.05 vCore) instead of buying vCores outright. There is no Iceberg destination in Anypoint. CDC in the catalog is Salesforce Change Data Capture and app events, not a Postgres WAL tail. This is not a Streamhouse. There is no Iceberg ∪ WAL.

Skippr is an open Streamhouse you run as one Rust binary. Write skippr.yml (or the same thing in Python), discover, sync. You query live state over Iceberg ∪ WAL, and the history is ordinary Iceberg in your bucket. No vCore. ELT into a warehouse is one path, not the product.

What MuleSoft is good at

An API that already fronts SAP, Salesforce, and a custom SOAP stack on one Runtime Fabric. That is the product. Exchange plus API Manager is why some estates treat Anypoint as the integration fabric, not ELT. If the job is "govern the API and keep the Mule app," that is a real product.

Where the job is wider

MuleSoft is an integration runtime. It is not a Streamhouse. There is no Iceberg ∪ WAL. There is no skipprd query on in-flight rows. The flow ends; then you query the next system.

Credit math is the ops. The 2,000 USD floor is a package plus credits, not a row. Pre-Commit is 50,000 USD a year before the first extra draw. vCore contracts still bill peak hourly workers, production and pre-production separately. Composer is a different canvas on the same invoice.

Skippr will not run a Mule application. Skippr also will not replace API Manager or Anypoint MQ. If the job is "API fabric we already staff," MuleSoft is the narrower tool. If the job is live SQL on Iceberg you run, MuleSoft was never that.

Getting started

Install skipprd from the install guide, or pip install skippr. The three tabs write the same skippr.yml. Then discover, sync, and query.

Which to choose

Choose MuleSoft if you need Anypoint APIs and Mule flows, and the next system after the flow is enough.

Choose Skippr if you want one binary, live SQL, and Iceberg files that stay yours. Skippr will not run a Mule app.

Install from Install. Connector and query reference live in Developer Docs. For optional onboarding in your VPC, Enterprise Jumpstart or Contact.
