Informatica alternative — Informatica vs Skippr

Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is a suite. Cloud Data Integration draws mappings on a designer. A Secure Agent runs them in your network. Database Ingestion and Replication does batch and CDC into warehouses and lakes. Quality, catalog, masking, and MDM are other IPU scalers on the same prepaid pot. Salesforce closed the acquisition on 18 Nov 2025. Existing contracts stay. The meter is Informatica Processing Units. Cloud Data Integration burns 0.16 IPU per compute-hour for the first 2,000 hours, then 0.025. Data Integration CDC is 4.88 IPU per million rows for the first 15 million, then 0.41, then 0.04. Database Ingestion CDC is 6.5 IPU per million for the first 15 million. PowerCenter 10.5.x standard support ended 31 Mar 2026. Headless IDMC (MCP services for agents) was still Private Preview, with GA aimed at summer 2026. Dollar prices are quote or a Salesforce IPU rate card. AWS Marketplace has listed 120 IPUs a month.

Skippr is an open Streamhouse you run as one Rust binary. Write skippr.yml (or the same thing in Python), discover, sync. You query live state over Iceberg ∪ WAL, and the history is ordinary Iceberg in your bucket. No IPU ledger. ELT into a warehouse is one path, not the product.

What Informatica is good at

This is the enterprise drawer. One IPU pot covers sync, CDC, quality rules, a catalog scanner, and MDM domains if you bought those scalers. Secure Agent keeps credentials off the SaaS plane. Mapping Designer plus advanced taskflows is how large programmes still move finance and supply-chain systems. Salesforce's pitch is that same metadata under Agentforce and MuleSoft. If you already have an Informatica estate and a governance committee, that is a real suite.

Where the job is wider

IDMC is a platform catalog, not a Streamhouse. There is no Iceberg ∪ WAL. There is no skipprd query on in-flight rows. Query waits for the target. CDC and compute-hour scalers stack. A chatty CDC job and a quality mapping both drain the same prepaid units, at different rates. FinOps is a spreadsheet of scalars.

PowerCenter is the hangover. Standard support on 10.5.x is closed. The migration story is IDMC, not a new PowerCenter forever. Headless IDMC for agents is preview.

Skippr will not give you MDM, a catalog scanner, or IPU overage protection. Skippr also will not replace a global Informatica operating model. If the job is "Salesforce-owned IDMC plus quality and MDM," Informatica is the narrower tool. If the job is live SQL on Iceberg you run, Informatica was never that.

Getting started

Install skipprd from the install guide, or pip install skippr. The three tabs write the same skippr.yml. Then discover, sync, and query.

Which to choose

Choose Informatica if you need IDMC's mapping suite, quality, and MDM on IPUs, and a warehouse after the mapping is enough.

Choose Skippr if you want one binary, no IPU ledger, live SQL, and Iceberg files that stay yours. Skippr will not replace Informatica MDM or the catalog.

Install from Install. Connector and query reference live in Developer Docs. For optional onboarding in your VPC, Enterprise Jumpstart or Contact.
